The vehicle was reviewed by a mechanic and he found:

The blue Javelin is currently in a partially disassembled condition and has substantial electrical and mechanical concerns that will need to be addressed before a complete operational assessment can be performed.

The dashboard gauges are currently inoperative. The vehicle will require electrical work within the dash, as well as inspection and repair of the electrical circuits in the battery and starter-relay areas. The existing wiring appears to have been disturbed and/or disconnected, making it difficult to fully evaluate the vehicle’s electrical systems without first restoring the affected circuits.

The ignition coil does not appear to be receiving a full 12-volt supply during testing. The cause will require further electrical diagnosis, including testing the ignition switch circuit, wiring, connections, grounds, and any resistance/ballast components that may be part of the ignition system.

The electric fuel pump is also not receiving full battery voltage. In order to get the vehicle to run, the fuel pump was temporarily supplied directly from the battery and fuel was supplied from an external fuel container. This allowed the fuel-delivery system to be evaluated, but the permanent fuel system and electrical supply still require repair.

The fuel gauge is inoperative, so the actual amount of fuel remaining in the vehicle’s fuel tank could not be reliably determined. The tank should be checked before assuming that the vehicle is simply low on fuel, and the sending unit/gauge circuit should be diagnosed.

The carburetor is leaking fuel, apparently around the carburetor seals/gaskets. This presents both a fuel-system reliability concern and a potential fire hazard. The carburetor should be removed and properly rebuilt/resealed, followed by adjustment and leak testing.

The underside of the vehicle shows rust. The extent and structural significance of the rust should be evaluated further, particularly around the frame/unibody structure, floor areas, suspension mounting points, brake lines, and other load-bearing areas.

The braking system will require service/refurbishment before the vehicle should be considered safe for normal driving. A complete brake inspection should include the master cylinder, wheel cylinders/calipers, hoses, lines, shoes/pads, rotors/drums, parking brake, and associated hardware.

There is also a significant engine oil leak. The leak appears potentially consistent with a rear main seal leak and/or an oil pan or related engine sealing issue. Because the vehicle was only operated for a short period during the inspection, the exact source could not be conclusively established. The engine should be cleaned and the leak source identified before determining the final repair.

Of additional concern, the oil observed leaking onto the ground had a milky appearance, which may indicate water/coolant contamination in the engine oil. This should be treated as a potential internal engine concern until proven otherwise. The engine oil and filter should be inspected, the cooling system should be checked, and the engine should be tested for possible coolant contamination or internal leakage before the vehicle is operated extensively.

Blue Javelin – Overall Assessment

This vehicle requires significant electrical restoration and mechanical inspection before it can be considered operational. The carburetor fuel leak, brake condition, engine oil leak, possible coolant/oil contamination, and rust are the primary concerns. A more extensive diagnostic evaluation is recommended after the electrical system has been restored enough to allow the vehicle’s systems to be properly tested.
